A wild tall tale a young hippopotamus who has a very special talent -- making brightly colored, "naturally hard-boiled" eggs. This gets him into big trouble with the other hippopotamuses, and he is forced to leave on a journey that eventually brings him to America. His work mistakenly gets credited to the "Easter Bunny." But Ernie, happy to have his eggs enjoyed, spends all year in the swamps of New Jersey making beautiful eggs for children.
