A straightforward case of hit-and-run? Or is there a more sinister reason behind the death of womanizer and wheeler-dealer Donald Markey? The only witness to the fatal accident is Virginia Mitchell, wife of DCI Benedict Mitchell, and she is adamant the driver hit the victim intentionally. Mitchell trusts the instincts of his wife more than the ruling of his superintendent who decides that despite the unpopularity of Donald Markey, his death doesn’t merit the status of a murder enquiry. So flying in the face of authority, in typically impulsive and ebullient fashion, Mitchell determines to solve the crime to his satisfaction – and the satisfaction of his demanding superintendent.
