Since her father has died and her brother is wanted by the army, she can only rely on the meagre work offered to her by some friends who run an inn to support herself. Life seems to pass slowly and greyly, one day after another. At least until she meets Sergeant Alastair Duncan, who with his charm and passion sets fire to Brigitta's heart.
