Large Scale Computation and Information Processing in Air Traffic Control

This volume offers a survey of several current research and development efforts in Air Traffic Control (ATC), with particular emphasis on large-scale data processing, ATC automation and applications of the decision sciences (operations research, optimal control, artificial intelligence, simulation). In particular, the reader will find here summaries of progress in such important areas as aviation weather information systems, flexible ATC simulation facilities and various aspects of ATC flow management. The papers underline the fact that ATC may finally be on the verge of its long-awaited transition toward advanced automation.
