Although lovely Susan Eaton privately longed for something more than neighborliness from young Lord Woodstone, she give no hint of these yearnings. Indeed, people were wont to call her "that nice, sensible Miss Eaton," not knowing her romantic heart was beating violently beneath the cod exterior. As for the dashing Lord Woodstone he was even more loath to admit to anything so unseemly a passion for a mere girl.
