Lessons in love

The Civil War is over, and Deborah Marbury, with her crippled seven-year-old brother, is moving to Texas to begin a new life. But her vision of a "Promised Land," a home left to her by her uncle, is instead a wreck of a house occupied by an intimidating Indian who refuses to leave. A restless wanderer with no family ties, Luke is honor-bound to protect the heirs of the man who took him in long ago. He'll keep his commitment even though it keeps him from settling his own troubling past. Danger is stalking Luke, just as it troubles Deborah on the homestead.
