Family tradition states that they descend from King Eadred who was the great-grandson of Alfred the Great. Most of the Eldreds in America descend from John Eldred (c1415-1489) of Corby Glen, Lincolnshire whos descendants settled in Rhode Island and Pennsylvania. Descendants live throughout the United States.
