Since Jenny's mother had died and her father remarried, he had taken very little interest in her, and it was a rather belated gesture when he at last invited her to visit him and his second wife Gabrielle at their villa in the South of France. So off Jenny went, and found plenty of problems awaiting her at Villa Buichi. She was soon on the friendliest of terms with her father and Gabrielle - but Gabrielle had a grown-up family of her own, and before Jenny had even met one of them, Raoul de Vaisseau, she had been warned that he was a lady-killer, that no woman could resist him. Yet the quiet, inexperienced young Jenny couldn't help but fall prey to a man of his charms. But could she ever compete with the brittle sophistication of the elegant Celeste?
