the long version

"For the present edition we have followed the Keniston text except for the revisions made in the original version of the novel by the author's own hand in 1925. This made necessary the new Spanish-English vocabulary contained in our edition. Dean Keniston gave us permission to make liberal use of the materials found in his edition, and our text, therefore, is a lineal descendant of the 1910 publication. For that reason, the name of Hayward Keniston appears on the title page as a joint editor."--Preface.
