Ever feel like the shadows are growing longer? Ever feel like the darkness is creeping up on you? Is that dimming light really nothing? Or is it something out to get you! Mance has none of these questions in his head. He knows the truth about the Dark: It's alive! He has witnessed the shapeless and the intangible take form. The Dark has eyes, crazy, vengeful, angry eyes. He has seen the dark show its hungry, bright, shiny fangs. He has seen it grow and tower over him. Mance has seen the truth but the darkness, this creature, still shields secrets to be illuminated: it is a human creation with a past. The product of a long-deceased woman, invented to protect her children from their fears, the living dark must continually feast on flesh.
