the long version
"Transport, Engineering and Architecture explores the close relationship between engineering and architecture, and is produced in association with Arup, one of the largest engineering consultants in the world. The author's introduction traces the historical background of transport around the world, and the engineering, architectural and planning responses that have attempted to meet its changing demands. The book is then divided into thematic chapters on airports, railways, bridges and other transport projects. Within each chapter the author presents a selection of detailed case studies - all engineered by Arup - to illustrate each theme. Those featured include the Oresund Bridge linking Denmark and Sweden, Chek Lap Kok Airport and Airport Railway in Hong Kong, and the new and refurbished stations for Wuppertal's century-old Hanging Railway in Germany. Building designs are by such world-renowned architectural practices as Foster and Partners, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Jaspert & Steffens and Terry Farrell & Partners."--Jacket.
