It is loosely based on her true story as documented in the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography (Ormsby, Mary Louise. 'Badger, Charlotte fl. 1806 - 1808'). While major events in Chalotte Badger's life have been included in this story, the identities of some of the other characters are fictional, notably Nathan, Elizabeth, Mary, Suzanne, Liam and Sean"--Publisher's note.
