American Ethnic Writers

American Ethnic Writers explores the rich tradition of African American, Jewish, Asian, Latino and American Indian writers and the ways in which they have expressed their sense of identity through literature. This set profiles 137 writers and one or more of their works. All essays address the theme of personal and cultural identity. Articles emphasize how the theme of race and ethnicity relates to the writer's life and how this theme is expressed through his or her writings.
