The American Printer

This book provides the reader with information about how to typeset and print materials. It addresses the history of printing, identifies the tools ofthe trade, and explains methods of composition (typesetting), imposition (printing), and proofreading. It also provides observations and recommendations about how a print shop should operate, the functions of the foreman, the press operators, and the warehouse. To a limited extent, the book addresses orthography (spelling) and usage. It discusses how to copyright materials and defines technical terms used in the printing trade.
