In a world where there are so many competing theories about God, questioning even whether there is a God at all, what might God's credentials look like? Do we even know what questions to ask of God, let alone being able to recognize God's answers? Can God really reach through the doubt raised by conflicting religious claims, by secularism, by evil and by death itself, and emerge as worthy of belief and love? The author traces the 'character' of God, as seen in the history unfolded in the Biblical Testaments. This character can never be presented as a set of undeniable propositions; it can only be confessed, responded to and allowed to shape our own being and response to the world. We cannot make the choice to accept God's credentials, particularly as presented in Jesus, in blind optimism. Instead, it is a commitment to know by doing, by following and by making God's choices our own and in doing so to become God's partners in the world.
