Katherine Dennison lives on The Marindor, a beautiful old sailboat that has been her refuge since the death of her son and the end of her marriage three years ago. A master mariner, she would rather navigate the sea than her emotions or her troubling past. But removing herself from the world only draws it closer. Approached by a mysterious foreigner, Katherine agrees to retrieve the cargo of a downed airplane only to discover that she is a hostage on her own boat. Matched against an adversary as clever as she, Katherine is forced to negotiate an increasingly thin area of geography and culpability.
