Life in Oakdale, an all-white suburban community, is disrupted when it becomes known that the new occupants of the house at 12 Rose Street are Negroes. The subsequent events mirror the reactions of the various segments of the community, from those who lead the campaign of intimidation against the newcomers to the behind-the-scenes counter-movement organized by those who would accept them. The action revolves around a Boy Scout troop whose members become involved on all sides of the conflict.
