Restructuring Academic Libraries: Organizational Development in the Wake of Technological Change is a collection of nineteen essays and case studies about the challenges libraries face today. It assesses a broad range of opportunities and achievements. It emphasizes both the theory and practice of boundary spanning to: integrate previously independent library units, ally the library and the computing center, develop state and regional consortia, and enhance the academy's contribution to society at large. Without such efforts, libraries would face organizational decay, primarily a loss of relevance on campus. With such efforts, libraries can take the lead in adapting information technology to higher education.
