Deadly Praying Mantises (No Backbone! the World of Invertebrates)

the long version

In less time than it takes a person to blink, a praying mantis can reach out and grab an insect to eat. These crafty hunters often make meals of flies, butterflies, and grasshoppers. Sometimes they even eat other praying mantises! These are just some of the surprising facts children will discover as they explore the fascinating world of these bold hunters. Large, eye-popping photos and clear, grade-appropriate text will engage emergent readers as they learn about the natural habitat, physical characteristics, diet, and behavior of this unique invertebrate. Deadly Praying Mantises is part of Bearport’s No Backbone! The World of Invertebrates series.
