A small border town in New Mexico, San Ildefonso dates back to well before the Mexican War which made it part of the United States. And in that time, San Ildefonso had survived a lot. Marauding Indians, lawless bandoleros, soldiers in blue, raiders in rags and killers in war paint had come and gone. Resigned but resilient, the inhabitants had yielded their paltry possessions from their adobe huts and resumed their lives. But now, renegades from south of the border are attempting to seize the village itself, in search of rumoured conquistador treasure. -- back cover.
