"Turnbald was one of hundreds of thousands of Swedish immigrants to the United States in the late 19th century. He was a hard worker and amassed a considerable fortune with his innovative newspaper. At the height of his career, this solid, business-minded Swede built a 33-room house that residents of Minneapolis soon dubbed "the castle." The exterior is a felicitous fairytale mixture of turrets, gargoyles and monumental pillars.
