the long version
As a nightclub singer, Rachel was used to men’s admiration – but seventeen-year old Nicky Hammond was something different. His boyish devotion was sweet and touching and sincere – but Rachel couldn’t possibly take it seriously, let alone return it; yet how could she make Nicky see that without hurting him? Yet the more she saw of Mark the more she found herself caring for him. Rachel had tried to do her best in a difficult situation; was her only reward to be heartbreak?
