Troubled times

University autonomy and academic freedom are becoming regulated by new priorities, principles and mechanisms as government regulates to cut costs and fosters "market" determination of what are relevant functions and outcomes of education. This book arose from a report on academic freedom in New Zealand by the Association of University Staff in 1999.
