For boys of a certain generation, our first read of Midway was ‘The Battle of Midway’ by Irving Werstein. I read it when I was about 8 or 9. Published in 1961, the book was intended as a juvenile history of the battle for baby boomer WW2 buffs. (and went we all?) For me, it began a lifelong interest in WW2 and US Naval aviation and history. I still own my copy ....
