About this book

====http://www.cienciamao.usp.br/tudo/exibir.php?midia=fic&cod=_odisseianomararthurcclar_1===='The Deep Range's story takes place about 100 years in the Future -- the 21st century, when the earth's population is fed principally from the sea--on whale products or from plankton farms. Its hero is Walter Franklin, a grounded space engineer now assigned to a submarine patrol tending the whale herds. DEEP RANGE vibrates with exciting adventures of the mysterious sea: a fight with a giant squid at 12,000 feet, a search for a great sea serpent, & a heroic rescue of a damaged submarine--all vividly & plausibly portrayed.'[Wikipedia] The Deep Range is a 1957 Arthur C. Clarke science fiction novel concerning a future sub-mariner who works in the field of aquaculture, farming the seas. The story includes the capture of a sea monster similar to a kraken. It is based on a short story of the same name that was published in April 1954, in Argosy magazine. The short story was later featured in Tales from Planet Earth and Frederik Pohl's Star Science Fiction No.3. A lengthy portion of this novel takes place on an extrapolated Heron Island, Australia. The novel contains references to Herman Melville's novel Moby-Dick.
