Employment and Basic Needs in Portugal

This volume consists of papers written by a team led by Professor W. van Ryckeghem of the Universities of Ghent and Brussels in connection with the Portuguese medium-term plan for 1977-80. A novel feature of that plan was the setting of specific objectives in relation to the basic needs of the population in such fields as nutrition, housing and health. This new emphasis in national planning practice coincided with the adoption by the World Employment Conference convened by the ILO in June 1976.
