Discipling

Few topics in Christianity evoke such a wide range of emotional responses as does that of discipleship. Comfortable pew-warmers, safe in their protective cocoon of mediocrity, are sure that Satan himself is corrupting the church with religious fanaticism. Disciples who are eager to have the daily encouragement and challenge to become more like Jesus Christ, however, cannot sing the praises of discipleship loudly enough. Gordon Ferguson has written a book that has something for everyone who claims to be a Christian. For the skeptic who suspects that discipleship is nothing more than manipulation and the invasion of personal space, Gordon shows that Jesus was the Master Discipler and expects us to imitate his example. For the novice who wants to grow as a Christian and help others to grow, he shows both the theory and the "how to's." And the mature disciples are not left out; plenty of pointers are included to help them keep on growing. All of the basic facets of discipling are covered: one-on-one discipling, group discipling and family discipling. Also, Gordon does not sidestep any of the issues commonly raised, such as authority and confidentiality.
