It is only possible for man to come to know the God of Jesus Christ, that is, to live the truly Christian life, through "conversion". By this the author does not mean the conversion of non-Christians to Christianity, but the process by which a Christian reorders his life towards the Absolute. In this conversion, the axis of existence changes; human values, formerly considered absolute, are now seen as subordinate to divine values. Once this conversion has opened the way into the true Christian life, the Christian becomes an imitator of Christ himself, attempting by prayer and renunciation to assimilate his will to God's. He is on the road to sanctity, and it is in the saints that the true fullness of Christian life is realized.
