The Monumental Cemeteries of Prehistoric Europe

the long version

"The Neolithic period is universally recognised as a time of dramatic change, not only in economic but also in spiritual terms." "This book incorporates evidence from the French long barrow cemeteries into the framework of long barrow monumental architecture across north-western Europe. Importantly it provides an overview of the cultural and social background of the preceding period, setting the scene for unravelling the dynamic burial traditions of both the late hunter-gatherers and the early farmers over this period. The visual and cultural impact is examined in an attempt to reappraise some of the major issues revolving around the significance of monumental cemeteries."--BOOK JACKET.
