A birthday party without a cake doesn't sound like a birthday at all. Madde, the main character in Popcorn Muffins, wonders why Mom wants breakfast for her birthday and not a birthday cake. The idea and food that Grandma is cooking up in the kitchen will surely provide the answer. Madde waits all morning to find out why there is no cake. The "large round box with stripes" will hopefully tell Madde everything she needs to know. Maybe her cake question will have a surprise answer.
