1945, Manchester: Christmas is approaching and Cathie Morgan excitedly awaits the return of her fiancé Alex from the front line. The war has turned Cathie's life upside down. Her home has been bombed, she's lost her beloved sister - and gained an orphaned neice to raise as her own. Now with Alex back, life looks less bleak and they can begin again. But Alex is not the man he used to be. He's cold and selfish - and when he betrays Cathie she must forge a life for her and her baby niece alone. To make ends meet, determined Cathie finds work in the local Christmas card factory - - but will she find a house to call home before the snow begins to fall?
