the long version
The biography of G W "Big Red" Hydrick and his family. Co-written by his daughter, Willie May Bradshaw with help from Hope Nickolson. Big Red, and his brother, XL Little Red, where well known figures of the bootlegging era along the old Mississippi Gold Coast. Both brothers owned "joints" (or Clubs) along the Pearl River, just east of Jackson, MS. The book provides insights into Big Red's families, both his own and his parents. His parents were sharecroppers and the insights into their family of nine children during the depression is moving. Big Red was described as garrulous, generous adn easygoing. The book is a delight to read and should be the foundation for a movie about those times in East Jackson.
