The invitation couldn't have come at a better time, Nicola Trenton thought delightedly - just as her mother was about to marry again, Nicola's distant cousin George Westerfield had written to suggest that she should go out for a holiday to New Zealand, to share in the local Centennial celebrations. Nicola's acceptence was already in the post, when another letter arrived - from cousin George's grandson, Forbes Westerfield, indicating somewhat forcibly that he would rather Nicola did not come! Old grudges die hard, it seemed, and the Westerfield family had not all forgotten the trouble caused many years ago by one of Nicola's ancestors. Nevertheless, Nicola was determined to go - and in exploring a long-ago romance, on the other side of the world, found her own happy
