Emily Scroggins, a teenage girl, and her family live a privileged life in 19th century South Carolina. But her life and that of her doctor, father, suddenly change when both are kidnapped and sent as stowaways to Mexico's Yucatan jungle. Only later does Emily find out that her father is captured so he will bring his medical knowledge to help save the Yucatan people from an epidemic plaguing them. While there, Emily has many adventures with her new friend, Pedro. It's during one such adventure that Pedro finds a prehistoric secret deep in the jungle, and Emily vows to help him protect it. But what will they do when exposing it may be the village's only salvation in the wake of a natural disaster?
