the long version

Sexual Difference is a translation into English of a leading theoretical text of Italian feminism first published in 1987 and originally entitled Non credere di avere dei diritti: la generazione della liberta femminile nell'idea e nelle vicende di un gruppo di donne. This book specifically documents the historical and theoretical evolution of the practice of sexual difference advocated by the Milan Women's Bookstore Collective. Sexual Difference tells the Story and the stories of the women who pioneered the search for a praxis and theory of women's freedom based strictly on women's relationships with one another. The choral narrative recalls the major events of the Italian feminist movement between 1966 and 1986 that influenced the development of the Milanese women's controversial feminist doctrine. As Teresa De Lauretis notes in the introductory essay, this work represents a notable contribution to the understanding of Italian feminism, currently little known in the United States. Born out of singular cultural, political, and historical circumstances markedly different from those impacting on American feminism, the theories presented in Sexual Difference promise fresh possibilities and polemics for feminist debates in America. -- From https://www.jstor.org (Oct. 4, 2016).
