the long version
W as he a rake or a rogue? What luck! To be rescued from an embarrassing accident by the biggest rake in London. Miss Elaine Farrington, twenty, a genteel beauty, could hardly find words to thank Lord Charles Dare, better known as The Devil's Dare. It was her brother who extended the invitation to make free their hearth and home, for he proclaimed Lord Dare to be a great gun, and an eligible suitor to boot. Elaine had her hands full discouraging Dare at every opportunity, for he was clearly not to be trusted. Elaine admitted a certain attraction, but the news that the Scottish Regalia lay hidden somewhere in her home fairly made her blood boil. So, he thought to make love to her so he could make good his defection. Her only goal was to stop Lord Dare before he recovered the stolen Regalia and before he discovered he'd stolen her heart, as well.
