the long version

Two friends from the United States undertake an "unauthorized" vacation to Cuba in January of 2007. The book is both travel narrative and photo documentation of that journey, an attempt to capture a critical side of Cuba's street-side culture, as well as the emerging tourist industry that has been re-built around it over the previous twenty years. In these pages we meet cab drivers and prostitutes, butchers, drinkers, servers and onlookers, including those many tourists arriving from locations spread around the world. Ultimately this entertaining read is humbly grounded and proudly subjective, keeping loose focus upon that unavoidable tension that exists when travelers are both critical of "tourist culture" yet are unavoidably tourists themselves.
