Britain is at war and May Lynch loves the life she's leading as a newly qualified pilot and poster girl for the Air Transport Auxiliary. But with this attention comes jealousy, and she is now under a cloud of suspicion over a missing ring. She is ordered to make one last delivery of a bomber to an airfield on the south coast before she has to face a tribunal. But she's attacked by enemy fighter planes and crash-lands near Cliffehaven. She is taken to hospital, unconscious and badly injured. Devastated and feeling very alone, she must come to terms with not only her disabling injury, but the lingering cloud of doubt over her honesty. As May slowly recovers, with the help of Peggy Reilly and her family at the Beach View Boarding house, she is determined to clear her name and return to the job she loves with a passion.
