Picture postcards, especially the 'painted ladies' style postcards, were popular between 1900 and the 1930s, when it was a method of cheap and speedy communication before the home telephone became widespread. The author shares from his own collection postcards representative of the subject, photographs that had been hand-tinted or hand-painted to be made into postcards. Featuring women from all over the world including Britain, France, Japan, Africa, and the Middle East, with a variety of motifs including romance, fashion, eroticism, war, sports, swim wear, and more.
