DOGWOOD, TEXAS A sleepy little town...or so it appeared to outsiders. Under Dogwood's placid surface, long-unresolved tensions simmered. And when drifter Lee Cameron rolled into town one rainy afternoon, the stage was set for an explosion... Over at the cafe on Dogwood Avenue, Annie Mae Taylor was always ready with a cheery smile and a free meal for down-and-out passersby. But Lee Cameron refused to be treated as a charity case, by Annie or anyone else. He was handsome and intelligent, reticent about his past, almost broke but clearly well-educated. Lee Cameron was a mystery. But one thing was soon apparent. Lee wanted Annie, and he didn't care which of Dogwood's family skeletons he unearthed in his pursuit of her.
