Where shall a man find his true background? Edward Frewen, employed in a Bradford textile business, seeks his in the home which he and his beautiful young wife, Aimie, have newly founded together. But, traveling abroad on business, Edward glimpses other live. And other women. In Paris, a charming and cultured woman shows him how circumstances have driven her to a way of life he can neither judge nor understand; in Brussels, he meets a career woman of great elegance, a nd learns what home life and affection truly are; in Italy, a wise, contented and self-contained woman shows him the meaning of inner peace. Edward, after bitter disillusion, comes at last to face a truth which he has long evaded, and to find his own true background where he has least expected it.
