the long version

"A law degree, a high level of professional engagement, and a personal relationship with Heinrich Himmler, the much feared head of the SS and German Police, helped ensure the rise of Walter Schellenberg. Head of SS Foreign Intelligence since 1942, Schellenberg was among the few to predict the dramatic collapse of Hitler's regime and Germany's military defeat at an early stage of World War II. Using his close contact with Himmler, he managed through the harrowing final months of the conflict to free large numbers of Jews and other concentration camp inmates by transporting them to safety in Sweden. In doing so he saved many lives. He survived the war to testify for the prosecution at the Nuremberg Trials of War Criminals."--Jacket.
