Creation - in art, in science, in everyday life - is a wonder, a miracle bearing no resemblance to any other sphere of human activity. This book describes an approach, based on the laws of information theory, to the study of a wide spectrum of phenomena of creation, including those found in the evolution of non-living and living matter, the nature of human behaviour, the emergence of consciousness, language, logic, science and art. The aim is to set up a model that derives important features common to the two diverging streams of human intellectual activity - the one pursuing the exact natural sciences, and the other what is broadly termed the "humanities". It is the book's tenet that by trying to integrate or harmonize these two spheres, man can better control, and thus increase the effectiveness of, human knowledge. .
