"Renowned for their transformations of commonplace industrial objects, Ada Tolla and Giuseppe Lignano of LOT-EK tackle the standardized shipping container. The resulting project, Mobile Dwelling Unit (MDU), transforms an existing 40-foot-long shipping container into a portable living space. Equipped with a series of expandable and retractable subvolumes, each of which contains a discrete function, the MDU can be easily transported via truck, train, or ship to its next location. 'LOT-EK: MDU' extensively documents the project with source imagery, renderings, construction drawings, and photographs of the fabrication process.
