Detective Sally Speckle gets a phone call from a man who calls himself Fred telling her that he has left a birthday present for her at the Old Mill. The call makes no sense, but it unnerves her particularly as the call is from a payphone in Loston Mental Hospital. Her present is the battered body of a faceless young woman. Then there is a second body and Speckle and her team realise they are dealing with a possible serial killer. Who will keep a cool head and save Fred's next victim, unmask the killer and solve the case?
