Lord Loss is an extreme horror fiction which transcribes the encounters of a boy, Grubbs Grady, after the shock of his family's brutal murder at the hands of demons, and his later experiences with uncle Dervish. The book begins in a fairly ordinary suburban setting, creating a great deal of suspense when Grubbs' world is turned upside down. Shan uses arrows to indicate changes in speech, subject or section, a form feature which is ubiquitous to all of the books in the Demonata series.
