*Chikuru mari mwana anofa* [lit- Good living is better than having a child (who dies)]. This book is a Zimbabwean social commentary. It looks at the effects of poor decision making and the constant struggle of a people to escape the firm grip of poverty. The bulk of this writing in *Chikuru mari mwana anofa* underscores the idea that - a people will hardly set themselves away from their history since it is a people's history that shapes who they are. This notion is set in form of a rhetoric question which is the title of the book, and further questions the place of goodwill and generosity during economic hardtimes. The story is richly garnished with Shona idioms and proverbs thereby presenting a multiple sided interpretation of the story.
