the long version
The proposed annotated index, whose first edition appeared in 1991, catalogs the content of art journals, published by the Ukrainian polygraphist and teacher Vasyl’ Kul’zhenko (1865–1934). These journals, which appeared in Kyiv under different titles between 1909–1915, addressed topical issues of artistic practice and became a prominent expression of Ukrainian and, in general, pan European culture. Vasyl Kul’zhenko was able to attract the participation of N. Beliashevsky, A. Benois, A. Blok, V. Bryusov, G. Burdanov, V. Krychevs’kyi, V. Perets, S. Yaremych and many other. His journals popularized the history of Ukrainian art. He published in part the legacy of of Taras Shevchenko’s drawings and etchings, and also investigated the works of contemporary masters, such as Mikhail Vrubel, Valentin Serov and others. It is difficult to find complete sets of these journals and, thus, they are almost inaccessible.
