Kanani wants to help. She's having a great time raising money to protect the Hawaiian monk seal by selling shave ice at the beach. If only she hadn't promised her best friend, Celina, that they would be surfing buddies. Although she doesn't want to admit it, Kanani thinks surfing is a little scary. When Celina finds another surfing partner, Kanani finds herself alone- and lonely. She begins visiting her kindly old neighbour, Tutu Lani, and realizes that seals aren't the only ones who need some help. As she searches for a way back to her best friend, Kanani finds inspiration in an unexpected place, and discovers where her own true talents lie.
