For seven years Anne Lessways had been bored with her job as a teacher. Then while changing trains when travelling to spend a vacation with her aunt, she met Lady Gillian Haymer, a girl who could have been her double. An audacious scheme was put to Anne that she would impersonate Gillian for a week during Gillian's absence with a boyfriend. Thus Anne found herself at Wynchcombe as the adored centre of a family party and it seemed that the ruse was working satisfactorily until Lady Gillian's ex husband arrives.
